### English translation (Claude)

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible; and in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of the same essence as the Father, through whom all things came to be; who for us human beings and for our salvation came down from the heavens and was made flesh of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became human, and was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried, and rose on the third day according to the Scriptures, and ascended into the heavens, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, and is coming again with glory to judge the living and the dead; of whose kingdom there will be no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped together and glorified together, who spoke through the prophets; in one holy, catholic, and apostolic church. We confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins; we look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the age to come. Amen.

### Translation notes

- The text first appears in the acts of Chalcedon (451), where it is read as the creed of the 150 fathers of Constantinople; it is printed here from Hahn.
- "Of the same essence" (ὁμοούσιον), as in the creed of Nicaea.
- "Who proceeds from the Father" (τὸ ἐκ τοῦ πατρὸς ἐκπορευόμενον): the Greek has no "and the Son" (the later Latin Filioque).
