ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν ἑκάστου κατέθηκε τὴν ψυχὴν τὴν ἀνταξίαν τῶν ὅλων· ταύτην ἡμᾶς ὑπὲρ ἀλλήλων ἀνταπαιτεῖ. εἰ δὲ τὰς ψυχὰς ὀφείλομεν τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς. καὶ τοιαύτην τὴν συνθήκην πρὸς τὸν σωτῆρα ἀνθωμολογήμεθα. ἔτι τὰ τοῦ κόσμου. τὰ πτωχὰ καὶ ἀλλότρια καὶ παραρρέοντα. καθείρξομεν ταμιευόμενοι; ἀλλήλων ἀποκλείσομεν, ἃ μετὰ μικρὸν ἕξει τὸ πῦρ;

English · Claude translation

For each of us he laid down his life, which was worth the whole universe; this he demands of us in return, for one another. And if we owe our lives to the brethren, and have made such a covenant with the Savior, shall we still shut up and hoard the things of the world, which are beggarly, alien, and flowing away? Shall we shut out from one another what the fire will soon have?
