οὐκοῦν ὁ σύμπας οὐδʼ ὅλος τετραέτης ἀποδείκνυται τῆς τοὺ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν διδασκαλίας χρόνος, τεσσάρων ἐπὶ τέσσαρσιν ἔτεσιν ἀρχιερέων ἀπὸ τοῦ Ἄννα καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν τοῦ Καϊάφα κατάστασιν ἐνιαύσιον λειτουργίαν διατετελεκότων. τόν γέ τοι Καϊάφαν ἀρχιερέα εἰκότως τοῦ ἐνιαυτοῦ, καθʼ ὃν τὰ τοῦ σωτηρίου πἐθους ἐπετελεῖτο, ἡ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου παρεσημήνατο γραφὴ, ἐξ ἧς καὶ αὐτῆς οὐκ ἀπᾴδων τῆς προκειμένης ἐπιτηρήσεως ὁ τῆς τοῦ Χριστοῦ διδασκαλίας ἀποδείκνυται χρόνος.

So the whole time of our Saviour's teaching is shown to be not even four full years, since four high priests in four years, from Annas to the appointment of Caiaphas, held the yearly office. And the scripture of the Gospel fittingly noted Caiaphas as high priest of the year in which the events of the saving Passion took place; from this too the time of Christ's teaching is shown to agree with the present observation.
