Πᾶσι μὲν οὖν ἀνθρώποις τὰ ἐκ τῆς τῶν τυράννων καταδυναστείας ἐλεύθερα ἦν, καὶ τῶν προτέρων ἀπηλλαγμένοι κακῶν ἄλλος ἄλλως μόνον ἀληθῆ θεὸν τὸν τῶν εὐσεβῶν ὑπέρμαχον ὡμολόγει, μάλιστα δʼ ἡμῖν τοῖς ἐπὶ τόν Χριστὸν τοῦ θεοῦ τὰς ἐλπίδας ἀνηρτημένοις ἄλεκτος παρῆν εὐφροσύνη, καί τις ἔνθεος ἅπασιν ἐπήνθει χαρὰ, πάντα τόπον τὸν πρὸ μικροῦ ταῖς τῶν τυράννων δυσσεβείαις ἠρειπωμένον ὥσπερ ἐκ μακρᾶς καὶ θανατηφόρου λύμης ἀναβιώσκοντα θεωμένοις, νεός τε αὖθις ἐκ βάθρων εἰς ὕψος ἄπειρον ἐγειρομένους, καὶ πολὺ κρείττονα τὴν ἀγλαίαν τῶν πάλαι πεπολιορκημένων ἀπολαμβάνοντας.

English · Claude translation

All people, then, were free from the oppression of the tyrants, and released from their former evils, each in his own way confessed as the only true God the champion of the godly. But above all for us who had fixed our hopes on the Christ of God there was unspeakable gladness, and a divine joy blossomed in all, as they saw every place that a little before had been ruined by the tyrants' impieties reviving as if from a long and deadly devastation, and temples rising again from their foundations to an immense height and receiving a splendor far greater than that of the ones formerly destroyed.
