ὁ δʼ ἔμπαλιν τούτοις τἀναντία διεπράττετο, παντοίας ὁσημέραι κατὰ τοῦ κρείττονος μηχανὰς ἐπιτεχνώμενος, πάντας τε ἐπινοῶν ἐπιβουλῆς τρόπους, ὡς ἂν κακοῖς τὸν εὐεργέτην ἀμείψοιτο. τὰ μὲν οὖν πρῶτα πειρώμενος τὴν συσκευὴν ἐπικρύπτειν, φίλος εἶναι προσεποιεῖτο, δόλῳ τε καὶ ἀπάτῃ πλειστάκις ἐπιθέμενος ῥᾷστα ἂν τυχεῖν τοῦ προσδοκωμένου ἤλπισε.

English · Claude translation

But he, on the contrary, did the opposite, devising every day all kinds of schemes against his superior and inventing every sort of plot to repay his benefactor with evils. At first he tried to hide his conspiracy and pretended to be a friend, and by attacking again and again with guile and deceit he hoped very easily to obtain what he expected.
