πολλῶν οὖν καὶ τῶν ἀρχόντων πιστευόντων ἦν “ θόρυβος τῶν Ἰουδαίων καὶ γραμματέων καὶ Φαρι- “ σαίων λεγόντων ὅτι κινδυνεύει πᾶς ὁ λαὸς Ἰησοῦν “τὸν Χριστὸν προσδοκᾶν. ἔλεγον οὖν συνελθόντες “τῷ Ἰακώβῳ· παρακαλοῦμέν σε, ἐπίσχες τὸν “ἐπεὶ ἐπλανήθη εἰς Ἰησοῦν, ὡς αὐτοῦ ὄντος τοῦ Χρι- “στοῦ. παρακαλοῦμέν σε πεῖσαι πάντας τοὺς ἐλθόν “τας εἰς τὴν ἡμέραν τοῦ πάσχα περὶ Ἰησοῦ. σοὶ γὰρ “πάντες πειθόμεθα. ἡμεῖς γὰρ μαρτυροῦμέν σοι καὶ “πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ὅτι δίκαιος εἶ καὶ ὅτι πρόσωπον οὐ λαμ- “βάνεις.

Since many even of the rulers believed, there was an uproar among the Jews and scribes and Pharisees, who said that the whole people was in danger of looking for Jesus as the Christ. So they came together and said to James, ‘We beg you, restrain the people, since it has gone astray after Jesus, as though he were the Christ. We beg you to persuade all who come for the day of the Passover about Jesus; for we all obey you. For we and all the people testify to you that you are righteous and that you do not show partiality.
