τί με φεύγεις, τέκνον, τὸν σαυ- “τοῦ πατέρα, τὸν γυμνὸν, τὸν γέροντα; ἐλέησόν με, “τέκνον, μὴ φοβοῦ. ἔχεις ἔτι ζωῆς ἐλπίδα. ἐγὼ “Χριστῷ λόγον δώσω ὑπὲρ σοῦ, ἂν δέῃ, τὸν σὸν θά- “νατον ἑκὼν ὑπομενῶ, ὡς ὁ κύριος τὸν ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν. “ὑπὲρ σοῦ τὴν ψυχὴν ἀντιδώσω τὴν ἐμήν. στῆθι, “πίστευσον, Χριστός με ἀπέστειλεν.

‘Why do you flee from me, child, your own father, unarmed and old? Have pity on me, child; do not fear. You still have hope of life. I will give account to Christ for you. If need be, I will willingly endure your death, as the Lord endured death for us. For you I will give my own life in exchange. Stand, believe; Christ has sent me.’
