ὡς δʼ οὔτε παρʼ “ξυνόμενός τις οὔτʼ ἐλεῶν αὐτὴν ἀνήρει, καὶ τὸ μὲ “εὑρεῖν τι σιτίον ἄλλοις ἐκοπία, πανταχόθεν δʼ ἄπο “ρον ἦν ἤδη καὶ τὸ εὑρεῖν, ὁ λιμὸς δὲ διὰ σπλάγ- “χνων καὶ μυελῶν ἐχώρει, καὶ τοῦ λιμοῦ μᾶλλον ἐξε- “καίοντο οἱ θυμοὶ, σύμβουλον λαβοῦσα τὴν ὀργὴ “μετὰ τῆς ἀνάγκης ἐπὶ τὴν φύσιν ἐχώρει, κα “τέκνον, ἦν δʼ αὐτῇ παῖς ὑπομάσθιος, ἁρπασαμένη, “

But when no one, either from exasperation or pity, would kill her, and she was weary of finding food for others, and it was now impossible to find it anywhere, and the famine went through her bowels and marrow, and her passions were inflamed more than by the famine, taking anger as her counsellor, together with necessity, she went against nature; and seizing her child (she had a son at the breast),
