ὁ δʼ οὐ μελλήσας εὐθέως τρά– πεζαν αὐτοῖς παρατεθῆναι προστάττει, εἶτα τροφῆς ἀφθόνου μεταλαβεῖν ἀξιοῖ, μίαν τε ὥραν, ὡς ἄν προσεύξοιτο ἀδεῶς, παρʼαὐτῶν αἰτεπῖαι. ἐπιτρεψάν– των δὲ ἀναστὰς ηὔχετο, ἔμπλεως τῆς χάριτος ὤν τοῦ κυρίου, ὡς ἐκπληττεσθαι τοὺς παρόντας εὐχομένου αὐτοῦ ἀκροωμένους, πολλούς τε αὐτῶν μετανοεῖν ἤδη ἐπὶ τῷ τοιοῦτον ἀναιρεῖσθαι μέλλειν σεμνὸν καὶ θεοπρεπῆ πρεσβύτην,

English · Claude translation

He, without delay, at once ordered a table to be set before them, then invited them to partake of abundant food, and asked of them one hour so that he might pray undisturbed. When they permitted it, he stood and prayed, being full of the grace of the Lord, so that those present were amazed as they listened to him praying, and many of them now repented that such a venerable and godlike old man was to be put to death.
