εἶτα προθεὶς αὐτοῦ πᾶσαν τὴν δόξαν ἐπιφέρει φάσκων “λέγοντος δέ μου πρὸς αὐτὸν ῾πόθεν ἡ ἀπό- “δειξις αὕτη σοι, ἢ πῶς δύνασαι λέγειν μίαν ἀρχὴν, “φράσον ἡμῖνʼ ἔφη τὰς μὲν προφητείας ἑαυτὰς ἐλέγ- “χειν, διὰ τὸ μηδὲν ὅλως ἀληθὲς εἰρηκέναι· ἀσύμφω- “νοι γὰρ ὑπάρχουσι καὶ ψευδεῖς καὶ ἑαυταῖς ἀντι- “κείμεναι. τὸ δὲ πῶς ἐστι μία ἀρχὴ μὴ γινώσκειν “ἔλεγεν, οὕτω δὲ κινεῖσθαι μόνον.

Then, after setting out his whole opinion, he continues: “When I said to him, ‘Where do you get this proof, or how can you say there is one principle? Tell us,’ he said that the prophecies refute themselves because they have said nothing at all true; for they are inconsistent, false, and contradict themselves. But how there is one principle he said he did not know, but was only moved to think so.
