καὶ τοιαύτη μὲν ποικιλία τῶν ἐπιτη- “ρούντων οὐ νῦν ἐφʼ ἡμῶν γεγονυῖα, ἀλλὰ καὶ πολὺ “πρότερον ἐπὶ τῶν πρὸ ἡμῶν, τῶν παρὰ τὸ ἀκριβὲς, “ὡς εἰκὸς, κρατούντων τὴν καθʼ ἁπλότητα καὶ ἰδιω- “τισμὸν συνήθειαν εἰς τὸ μετέπειτα πεποιηκότων. “καὶ οὐδὲν ἔλαττον πάντες οὗτοι εἰρήνευσάν τε “εἰρηνεύομεν πρὸς ἀλλήλους, καὶ ἡ διαφωνία τῆς “νηστείας τὴν ὁμόνοιαν τῆς πίστεως συνίστησι.’’

English · Claude translation

Such variety among the observers did not arise in our time, but much earlier, in the time of those before us, who, it seems, not holding strictly to accuracy, established for posterity the custom in its simplicity and private form. And all these nonetheless lived in peace, and we live in peace with one another; and the disagreement about the fast confirms the agreement in the faith.”
