ὅσης δὲ τόλμης ἐστὶ τοῦτο τὸ “ἁμάρτημα, εἰκὸς μηδὲ ἐκείνους ἀγνοεῖν. ἢ γὰρ πιστεύουσιν ἁγίῳ πνεύματι λελέχθαι τὰς θείας γραφὰς, καί εἰσιν ἄπιστοι, ἢ ἑαυτοὺς ἡγοῦνται σοφω- “τέρους τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος ὑπάρχειν, καὶ τί ἕτερον ‘ἢ δαιμονῶσιν. οὐδὲ γὰρ ἀρνήσασθαι δύνανται ἑαυτῶν εἶναι τὸ τόλμημα, ὁπόταν καὶ τῇ αὐτῶν χειρὶ “ᾖ γεγραμμένα, καὶ παρʼ ὧν κατηχήθησαν, μὴ παρέλαβον τὰς γραφὰς, καὶ δεῖξαι ἀντίγραφα, “ὅθεν αὐτὰ μετεγράψαντο, μὴ ἔχωσιν.

How great the audacity of this sin is, it is likely that even they are not ignorant. For either they do not believe that the divine Scriptures were spoken by the Holy Spirit, and are unbelievers; or they think themselves wiser than the Holy Spirit, and what is this but to be possessed by a demon? Nor can they deny that the audacity is theirs, since the copies are written in their own hand, and they did not receive the Scriptures in this form from those who instructed them, nor can they show copies from which they transcribed them.
