ὅπερ ἐπιγνόντα τὸν Πέτρον προτρεπτικῶς μήτε κωλῦσαι μήτε προτρέψασθαι, τὸν μέντοι Ἰωάννην ἔσχατον συνιδόντα ὅτι τὰ σωματικὰ ἐν τοῖς εὐαγγελίοις δεδήλωται, προτραπέντα ὑπὸ τῶν γνωρίμων, πνεύματι θεοφορηθέντα, πνευματικὸν ποιῆσαι εὐαγγέλιον. τοσαῦτα ὁ Κλήμης.

When Peter learned of this, he neither actively forbade nor encouraged it. But John, last of all, perceiving that the bodily facts had been set out in the Gospels, urged by his acquaintances and borne along by the Spirit, composed a spiritual Gospel. So much from Clement.
