τοῦ δʼ αὐτοῦ Ἀφρικανοῦ καὶ ἄλλα τὸν ἀριθμὸν πέντε χρονογραφιῶν ἦλθεν εἰς ἡμᾶς ἐπʼ ἀκριβὲς πεπονημένα σπουδάσματα, ἐν οἶς φησιν ἑαυτὸν πορείαν στείλασθαι ἐπὶ τὴν Ἀλεξάνδρειαν, διὰ πολλὴν τοῦ Ηρακλᾶ φήμην, ὃν ἐπὶ λόγοις φιλοσόφοις καὶ τοῖς ἄλλοις Ἑλλήνων μαθήμασιν εὖ μάλα διαπρέψαντα τὴν ἐπισκοπὴν τῆς αὐτόθι ἐκκλησίας ἐγχειρισθῆναι ἐδηλώσαμεν.

Of the same Africanus there have come down to us other carefully worked studies, five books of Chronography, in which he says that he made a journey to Alexandria because of the great fame of Heraclas, who, as we have shown, excelled in philosophical and other Greek learning and was entrusted with the episcopate of the church there.
