ἐπιστροφῆς δὲ πάντων πρὸς αὐτοὺς γενομένης, πρίν τινας αὐτῶν ἄλλους λαβέσθαι, “φθάσαντες ἐπὶ τὸ βάθρον ἀνέδραμον, εἶναι Χρι- “στιανοὶ λέγοντες, ὡς τόν τε ἡγεμόνα καὶ τοὺς συνέδρους ἐμφόβους γενέσθαι, καὶ τοὺς μὲν κρινομένους “εὐθαρσεστάτους ἐφʼ οἶς πείσονται φαίνεσθαι, “δὲ δικάζοντας ἀποδειλιᾶν. καὶ οὗτοι μὲν ἐκ δικα- ‘στηρίων ἐνεπόμπευσαν καὶ ἠγαλλιάσαντο τῇ μαρ- “τυρίᾳ, θριαμβεύοντος αὐτοὺς ἐνδόξως τοῦ θεοῦ.”

When all turned toward them, before anyone else could seize them, they ran up to the platform first, saying that they were Christians, so that the governor and his assessors were afraid, and those on trial appeared most courageous in the face of what they were about to suffer, while the judges were cowed. And these went in procession from the courts and exulted in their testimony, God leading them gloriously in triumph.”
