Ἕβδομος δὲ ἐν τούτοις ἀριθμείσθω Βασιλείδης, τὴν περιβόητον Ποταμίαι- νᾶν ἀπαγαγὼν, περὶ ἧς πολὺς ὁ λόγος εἰσέτι νῦν παρὰ τοῖς ἐπιχωρίοις ᾄδεται, μυρία μὲν ὑπὲρ τῆς τοῦ σώματος ἁγνείας τε καὶ παρθενίας, ἐν ᾗ διέπρεψε, πρὸς ἐραστὰς ἀγωνισαμένης (καὶ γὰρ οὖν αὐτῇ ἀκμαῖον πρὸς τῇ ψυχῇ καὶ τὸ τοῦ σώματος ὡραῖον ἐπήνθει), μυρία δὲ ὑπὲρ τῆς εἰς Χριστὸν πίστεως ἀνατλησάσης, καὶ τέλος μετὰ δεινὰς καὶ φρικτὰς εἰπεῖν βασάνους ἅμα τῇ μητρὶ Μαρκέλλῃ διὰ πυρὸς τελειωθείσης.

Let Basilides be counted the seventh among these. He led away the celebrated Potamiaena, of whom much is still sung by the people of the place. She endured countless contests with lovers for the purity and virginity of her body, in which she excelled (for together with her soul the beauty of her body was in full flower); she endured countless sufferings for faith in Christ, and at last, after tortures terrible and dreadful to speak of, she was perfected by fire together with her mother Marcella.
