“κατὰ γὰρ τὸ ῥηθὲν πρὸς τὸν προφήτην Ἡσαΐαν “τὰ “ἀπʼ ἀρχῆς ἰδοὺ ἥκασι, καὶ καινὰ ἃ νῦν ἀνατελεῖ.“ “ὥσπερ γὰρ νέφος τὰς ἡλιακὰς ἀκτῖνας ὑποδραμὸν καὶ “πρὸς ὀλίγον ἐπηλυγάσαν ἐσκίασεν αὐτὸν καὶ ἀντʼ αὐ- “τοῦ προεφάνη, εἶτα παρελθόντος ἢ διατακέντος τοῦ “νέφους ἐξεφάνη πάλιν ἐπανατείλας ὁ ἥλιος ὁ προα- “νατείλας, οὕτω προστὰς καὶ προσπελάσας ἑαυτὸν ὁ “Μακριανὸς τῆς ἐφεστώσης Γαλλιηνοῦ βασιλείας, ὁ “μὲν οὐκ ἔστιν, ἐπεὶ μηδὲ ἧν, ὁ δʼ ἔστιν ὁμοίως “ὥσπερ ἦν.

For according to what was said to the prophet Isaiah, ‘Behold, the things from the beginning have come, and new things which shall now spring forth.’ For as a cloud running under the sun's rays and darkening them for a little overshadows it and appears in its place, and then, when the cloud has passed or melted away, the sun that had risen before shines forth again, so Macrianus, who put himself forward and pressed close upon the established reign of Gallienus, is not, since he never was; but Gallienus is, just as he was.
