τεκμαίρομαι γὰρ ἔκ τε “τοῦ ἤθους ἐκατέρων καὶ τοῦ τῶν λόγων εἴδους, “καὶ τῆς τοῦ βιβλίου διεξαγωγῆς λεγομένης, μὴ τὸν “αὐτὸν εἶναι. ὁ μὲν γὰρ εὐαγγελιστὴς οὐδαμοῦ τὸ “ὄνομα αὐτοῦ παρεγγράφει, οὐδὲ κηρύσσει ἑαυτὸν, “οὔτε διὰ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου οὔτε διὰ τῆς ἐπιστολῆς.’’

For I judge from the character of each, and the form of the language, and the arrangement of the book, as it is called, that they are not the same. For the evangelist nowhere adds his name, nor proclaims himself, either in the Gospel or in the letter.”
