ψαλμοὺς δὲ τοὺς μὲν εἰς τὸν κύριον ἡμῶν “Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν παύσας, ὡς δὴ νεωτέρους καὶ νεω- “τέρων ἀνδρῶν συγγράμματα, εἰς ἑαυτὸν δὲ ἐν μέσῃ “τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ τῇ μεγάλῃ τοῦ πάσχα ἡμέρᾳ ψαλμῳδεῖν “γυναῖκας παρασκευάζων, ὧν καὶ ἀκούσας ἄν τις “φρίξειεν, οἷα καὶ τοὺς θωπεύοντας αὐτὸν ἐπισκό- “πους τῶν ὁμόρων ἀγρῶν τε καὶ πόλεων καὶ πρεσ- “βυτέρους ἐν ταῖς πρὸς τὸν λαὸν ὁμιλίαις καθίησι “διαλέγεσθαι.

English · Claude translation

stopping the psalms to our Lord Jesus Christ, as being modern and the compositions of modern men, but training women to sing psalms to himself in the midst of the church on the great day of the Pascha, which one would shudder to hear; and such things he lets the bishops of the neighbouring country and cities who flatter him, and the presbyters, say in their sermons to the people.
