ὁ δὲ Φιρμιλλιανὸς καὶ δὶς ἀφικόμενος κατέγνω μὲν τῶν ὑπʼ ἐκείνου καινοτομουμένων, ὡς ἴσμεν καὶ μαρτυροῦμεν οἱ παραγενόμενοι, καὶ ἄλλοι πολ- “λοὶ συνίσασιν, ἐπαγγειλαμένου δὲ μεταθήσεσθαι, πιστεύσας καὶ ἐλπίσας ἄνευ τινὸς περὶ τὸν λόγον “λοιδορίας τὸ πρᾶγμα εἰς δέον καταστήσεσθαι, ἀνε- ῾βάλετο, παρακρουσθεὶς ὑπʼ αὐτοῦ τοῦ καὶ τὸν θεὸν τὸν ἑαυτοῦ ἀρνουμένου, καὶ τὴν πίστιν, ἣν καὶ αὐτὸς πρότερον εἶχε, μὴ φυλάξαντος.

English · Claude translation

Firmilian came twice and condemned the innovations introduced by him, as we who were present know and testify, and many others are aware; but when he promised to change, Firmilian, believing him and hoping that without any reproach to the word the matter would be set right, postponed judgment, being deceived by him who denied even his own God and did not keep the faith he himself formerly held.
