English · Claude translation
Anatolius was appointed his successor, a good man, as they say, succeeding a good one; he too was an Alexandrian by birth, and in learning, Greek education, and philosophy he had carried off the first place among the most approved of our time, having reached the summit in arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, and the rest of dialectic, as well as natural philosophy and rhetoric. For these reasons, it is said, he was asked by the citizens there to establish the school of the Aristotelian succession.
