κατά τε τὰ ἐν ψαλμοῖς προθεσπισθέντα κατέστρεψε τὴν διαθήκην τοῦ δούλου αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐβεβήλωσεν εἰς γῆν διὰ τῆς τῶν ἐκκλησιῶν καθαιρέσεως τὸ ἁγίασμα αὐτοῦ, καὶ καθεῖλε πάντας τοὺς φραγμοὺς αὐτοῦ, ἔθετο τὰ ὀχυρώματα αὐτοῦ δειλίαν· διήρπασάν τε τὰ πλήθη τοῦ λαοῦ πάντες οἱ διοδεύοντες ὁδὸν, καὶ δὴ ἐπὶ τούτοις ὄνειδος ἐγενήθη τοῖς γείτοσιν αὐτοῦ. ὕψωσε γὰρ τὴν δεξιὰν τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀπέστρεψε τὴν βοήθειαν τῆς ῥομφαίας αὐτοῦ, καὶ οὐκ ἀντελάβετο αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ πολέμῳ· ἀλλὰ καὶ κατέλυσεν ἀπὸ καθαρισμοῦ αὐτὸν καὶ τὸν θρόνον αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν γῆν κατέρραξεν· ἐσμίκρυνέ τε τὰς ἡμέρας τοῦ χρόνου αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶσι κατέχεεν αὐτοῦ αἰσχύνην.

and, as was foretold in the Psalms, “he overthrew the covenant of his servant, and profaned his sanctuary to the ground” (through the destruction of the churches), “and broke down all his hedges, and made his strongholds a terror; all who pass along the road plundered the multitudes of the people, and besides this he became a reproach to his neighbors. For he exalted the right hand of his enemies, and turned back the help of his sword, and did not support him in the battle; but he also put an end to his purification and hurled his throne to the ground; and he shortened the days of his time, and above all poured shame upon him.”
