κατὰ δὲ τὸν αὐτὸν χρόνον καὶ Πέτρος τῶν κατʼ Ἀλεξάνδρειαν παροικιῶν προστὰς ἐπιφανέστατα, θεῖον ἐπισκόπων χρῆμα, βίου τε ἀρετῆς ἕνεκα καὶ τῆς τῶν ἱερῶν λόγων συνασκήσεως, ἐξ οὐδεμιᾶς ἀνάρπαστος γεγονὼς αἰτίας, μηδεμιᾶς προλαβούσης προσδοκίας, ἀθρόως οὕτω καὶ ἀλόγως, ὡσὰν Μαξιμίνου τὴν κεφαλὴν ἀποτέμνεται, σὺν αὐτῷ δὲ καὶ τῶν κατʼ Αἴγυπτον ἐπισκόπων ἄλλοι πλείους ταὐτὸν ὑπομένουσι·

English · Claude translation

At the same time Peter too, who presided most illustriously over the churches of Alexandria, a divine example among bishops for the excellence of his life and his study of the sacred Scriptures, was seized for no cause at all and without any expectation beforehand, and so, suddenly and without reason, as if on Maximin's order, he was beheaded; and with him many other bishops of Egypt suffered the same.
