Μετὰ τὸ πάντων κατανοῆσαι τὰς ῥάβδους τὸν ποιμένα λέγει μοι· Εἶπόν σοι, ὅτι τὸ δένδρον τοῦτο φιλόζωόν ἐστι. βλέπεις, φησί, πόσοι μετενόησαν καὶ ἐσώθησαν; Βλέπω, φημί, κύριε. Ἵνα ἴδῃς, φησί, τὴν πολυευσπλαγχνίαν τοῦ κυρίου, ὅτι μεγάλη καὶ ἔνδοξός ἐστι, καὶ ἔδωκε πνεῦμα τοῖς ἀξίοις οὖσι μετανοίας.

After the shepherd had examined the sticks of all, he said to me, “I told you that this tree loves life. Do you see,” he said, “how many have repented and been saved?” “I see, sir,” I said. “It is so that you may see,” he said, “the great compassion of the Lord, that it is great and glorious, and that he has given the spirit to those who are worthy of repentance.”
