Refutation of All Heresies 4.1.2
Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.
Summary: Astrologers speak of stars in trine and square aspects, and of sympathy between heaven and earth.
English · Claude translation
[They are said to look upon one another and to agree with one another] when they appear in trine or in square. Those form a trine and look upon one another that have an interval of three signs between them, and those in square an interval of two. As the parts below sympathize with the head, [and the head with the parts] below, so earthly things sympathize with those above the moon. Yet there is a certain difference and lack of sympathy among these, as they do not have one and the same unity.
