Refutation of All Heresies 5.7.26
Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.
Summary: They apply Jesus' saying that only the Father is good to their first principle.
English · Claude translation
This alone, he says, is good, and about this was spoken what the Savior said: "Why do you call me good? One is good, my Father in the heavens, who makes his sun rise on the just and the unjust and sends rain on the holy and on sinners." Who the holy are on whom he rains, and the sinners on whom the same one rains, we shall also say later with the rest.
