Refutation of All Heresies 6.10.2

Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.

Summary: Simon cites “all flesh is grass” and makes the enduring word of the Lord the word born in the mouth.

English · Claude translation

“But about its secretion and separation,” he says, “Scripture has said enough, and for the teaching of those who have been brought to their full image what was said suffices: that ‘all flesh is grass, and all the glory of flesh like the flower of grass. The grass withered, and its flower fell off; but the word of the Lord remains forever.’ The word of the Lord,” he says, “is the word and speech born in the mouth; and there is no other place of its generation.”
