Refutation of All Heresies 6.31.2

Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.

Summary: At the Aeons' plea the Father has Mind and Truth emit Christ and the Holy Spirit to shape the abortion and comfort Sophia.

English · Claude translation

All the Aeons, then, fled to the Father in supplication, that he might give rest to the grieving Sophia; for she was weeping and lamenting over the abortion begotten by her, for so they call it. The Father, then, pitying Sophia's tears and accepting the Aeons' supplication, orders a further emission; for he himself, he says, did not emit, but Mind and Truth emitted Christ and the Holy Spirit, for the forming and separating of the abortion and for the consolation and relief of Sophia's groans.
