Refutation of All Heresies 8.20.2
Authorship disputed: The work names no author. Book 1 was long printed among Origen's works as the Philosophumena; after books 4–10 were found in a manuscript from Mount Athos (published 1851), it was assigned to Hippolytus, the usual view today, though some scholars ascribe it to another Roman writer of the same circle. Books 2 and 3 are lost, and book 4 lacks its beginning.
Summary: Paul foretold those who would forbid marriage and certain foods, which God created good.
English · Claude translation
“The Spirit expressly says: in later times some will depart from sound teaching, giving heed to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the hypocrisy of liars, seared in their own conscience, forbidding marriage, and abstaining from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by the faithful and those who know the truth; for every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.
