καὶ τοιοῦτο μὲν τὸ πέρας τῆς Ἡρώδου γέγονε τελευτῆς, ποινὴν δικαίαν ἐκτίσαντος ὣν ἀμφὶ τὴν Βηθλεὲμ ἀνεῖλε παίδων, τῆς τοῦ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν ἐπιβου- λῆς ἕνεκα. μεθʼ ἣν ἄγγελος ὄναρ ἐπιστὰς ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ διατρίβοντι τῷ Ἰωσὴφ ἀπᾶραι ἅμα τῷ παιδὶ καὶ τῇ τούτου μητρὶ ἐπὶ Ἰουδαίαν παρακελεύεται, τεθνηκέναι δηλῶν τοὺς ἀναζητοῦντας τὴν ψυχὴν τοῦ παι- δίου. τούτοις δʼ ὁ εὐαγγελιστὴς ἐπιφέρει λέγων ‘ ἀκούσας δʼ ὅτι Ἀρχέλαος βασιλεύει τῆς Ἰουδαίας ἀντὶ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ Ἡρώδου ἐφοβήθη ἐκεῖ ἀπελθεῖν· χρηματισθεὶς δὲ κατʼ ὄναρ ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς τὰ μέρη τῆς Γαλιλαίας.”

English · Claude translation

Such was the end of Herod's life, and he paid a just penalty for the children he killed around Bethlehem because of his plot against our Saviour. After this, an angel stood by Joseph in a dream while he was staying in Egypt and commanded him to depart with the child and his mother to Judea, showing that those who sought the child's life were dead. To this the evangelist adds: “But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there; and being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee.”
