πεπτωκυῖαν δὴ ταύτην ἐκείνην τὴν κατʼ εἰκόνα θεοῦ κατασκευασθεῖσαν ἐλυμήνατο οὐχ ὗς οὗτος ὁ ἐκ δρυμοῦ τοῦ παρʼ ἡμῖν ὁρατοῦ, ἀλλά τις φθοροποιὸς δαίμων, καὶ θῆρες ἄγριοι νοητοὶ, οἱ καὶ τοῖς πάθεσιν οἷα πεπυρακτωμένοις τῆς σφῶν κακίας βέλεσιν αὐτὴν ἐξυφάψαντες, ἐνεπύρισαν ἐν πυρὶ τὸ θεῖον ὄντως ἁγιαστήριον τοῦ θεοῦ, εἰς τὴν γῆν τε ἐβεβήλωσαν τὸ σκήνωμα τοῦ ὀνόματος αὐτοῦ· εἶτα πολλῷ τῷ προσχώματι τὴν ἀθλίαν κατορύξαντες, εἰς ἀνέλπιστον πάσης περιέτρεψαν σωτηρίας.

When it had fallen, that soul which was made in the image of God was ravaged not by the boar from the forest visible among us, but by a destructive demon and by spiritual wild beasts, who, kindling it with the passions as with the fiery darts of their own wickedness, set fire to the truly divine sanctuary of God and profaned to the ground the dwelling of his name; then, burying the wretched soul under a great heap of earth, they reduced it to despair of all salvation.
