ἀφῄρητο δʼ οὖν ἐξ ἀνθρώπων πᾶν δέος τῶν πρὶν αὐτοὺς πιεζόντων, λαμπρὰς δʼ ἐτέλουν καὶ πανηγυρικὰς ἑορτῶν ἡμέρας· ἦν δὲ φωτὸς ἔμπλεα πάντα, καὶ μειδιῶσι προσώποις, ὄμμασί τε φαιδροῖς οἱ πρὶν κατηφεῖς ἀλλήλους ἔβλεπον, χορεῖαι δʼ αὐτοῖς καὶ ὕμνοι κατὰ πόλεις ὁμοῦ καὶ ἀγρούς· τὸν παμβασιλέα θεὸν πρώτιστα πάντων, ὅτι δὴ τοῦτʼ ἐδιδάχθησαν, κἄπειτα τὸν εὐσεβῆ βασιλέα παισὶν ἅμα θεοφιλέσιν ἐγέραιρον.

English · Claude translation

All fear of those who had formerly oppressed them was taken away from people, and they celebrated brilliant and festive days of feasting. Everything was full of light, and those who before were downcast looked at one another with smiling faces and bright eyes; with dances and hymns, in cities and countryside alike, they honored first of all God the King of all, since they had been taught to do so, and then the pious emperor with his sons dear to God.
