καὶ τούτων οἱ μὲν ἄχρι δεσμῶν καὶ φυλακῆς “χωρήσαντες, καί τινες καὶ πλείονας ἡμέρας καθειρ- “χθέντες, εἶτα καὶ πρὶν ἐπὶ δικαστήριον ἐλθεῖν, “ἐξωμόσαντο, οἱ δὲ καὶ βασάνοις ἐπὶ ποσὸν ἐγκαρ- “τερήσαντες πρὸς τὸ ἑξῆς ἀπεῖπον.

Of these, some went as far as bonds and prison, and some were even shut up for many days, and then, before coming to court, forswore; others, having held out under tortures for a while, afterward gave up.
