καὶ ταῦτα “ἐπὶ πολὺ μὲν ἤκμασε τοῦτον τὸν τρόπον, διαδεξα- “μένη δὲ τοὺς ἀθλίους ἡ στάσις καὶ ὁ πόλεμος ὁ ἐμφύλιος τὴν καθʼ ἡμῶν ὠμότητα πρὸς ἀλλήλους ‘αὐτῶν ἔτρεψε. καὶ σμικρὸν μὲν προσανεπνεύσαμεν, “ἀσχολίαν τοῦ πρὸς ἡμᾶς θυμοῦ λαβόντων, εὐθέως δὲ ἡ τῆς βασιλείας ἐκείνης τῆς εὐμενεστέρας ἡμῖν “μεταβολὴ διήγγελται, καὶ πολὺς ὁ τῆς ἐφʼ ἡμὰς ‘ἀπειλῆς φόβος ἀνετείνετο.

English · Claude translation

These things flourished in this way for a long time. But then faction and civil war overtook the wretches and turned their cruelty against us upon one another. We breathed again a little, since they had no leisure for their fury against us; but immediately the change of that reign which had been more kindly to us was announced, and great fear of threats against us was held over us.
