ὅτι δὴ ἐπὶ πάσαις λογικαῖς ἐπιστήμαις τὸν τεχνικώτατον καὶ λογιώτατον καὶ μόνον πεῖραν αὐτοῦ λαβὼν ἂν εἶπες. ἐφάμιλλα δὲ αὐτῷ καὶ τὰ τῆς ἀρετῆς παρῆν τοῦ βίου. τοῦτον κατὰ τὸν τοῦ διωγμοῦ καιρὸν τοῖς κατὰ Παλαιστίνην κλίμασι διαδιδράσκοντα ἐφʼ ὅλοις ἔτεσιν ἑπτὰ κατενοήσαμεν.

For in all the logical sciences you would have called him the most skilled and learned, had you made trial of him even once. And the virtues of his life were equal to these. We observed him in the time of the persecution fleeing about the regions of Palestine for seven whole years.
