Fragments (complete)
Authorship disputed: Fragments transmitted under Hippolytus's name, chiefly in catenae (Prokopios of Gaza's Genesis catena, Theodoret's Eranistes, Leontius of Byzantium). Achelis separates genuine from spurious fragments; only his 'echte' Genesis fragments and some Theodoret-preserved pieces are staged here. Fragment 2.7 (Jerome's Latin report of Hippolytus on Gen 27) is not staged.

Tell me, blessed Mary, what was that which was conceived by you in the womb, and what was that which was carried by you in a virgin womb?

And for this reason three seasons of the year were prefigured with reference to him, the Savior, so that he might fulfill the mysteries prophesied about him: at the Passover, so that he might show himself as the one who was to be sacrificed as a sheep and shown to be the true Passover, as the apostle says: “Our Passover was sacrificed for us, Christ the God”; and at Pentecost, so that he might signify beforehand the kingdom of the heavens, having himself first gone up into the heavens and offered man as a gift to God.
1 Cor 5:7 (quotation, high confidence) · Isa 53:7 (allusion, medium confidence) · Exod 23:14 (echo, low confidence)
