Οὕτως δὲ εἰρηκέναι ἐπήνεγκα· Ἰούδα, ᾔνεσάν σε οἱ ἀδελφοί σου, αἱ χεῖρές σου ἐπὶ νώτου τῶν ἐχθρῶν σου, προσκυνήσουσί σε οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ πατρός σου. Σκύμνος λέοντος Ἰούδα· ἐκ βλαστοῦ, υἱέ μου, ἀνέβης. Ἀναπεσὼν ἐκοιμήθη ὡς λέων καὶ ὡς σκύμνος· τίς ἐγερεῖ αὐτόν; Οὐκ ἐκλείψει ἄρχων ἐξ Ἰούδα καὶ ἡγούμενος ἐκ τῶν μηρῶν αὐτοῦ, ἕως ἂν ἔλθῃ τὰ ἀποκείμενα αὐτῷ· καὶ αὐτὸς ἔσται προσδοκία ἐθνῶν, δεσμεύων πρὸς ἄμπελον τὸν πῶλον αὐτοῦ καὶ τῇ ἕλικι τὸν πῶλον τῆς ὄνου αὐτοῦ. Πλυνεῖ ἐν οἴνῳ τὴν στολὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐν αἵματι σταφυλῆς τὴν περιβολὴν αὐτοῦ. Χαροποὶ οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ οἴνου, καὶ λευκοὶ οἱ ὀδόντες αὐτοῦ ὡς γάλα.

“I added that he had spoken thus: ‘Judah, your brothers have praised you; your hands are on the back of your enemies; the sons of your father shall worship you. A lion's whelp is Judah; from a shoot, my son, you have come up. He lay down and slept like a lion and like a lion's whelp; who shall rouse him? A ruler shall not fail from Judah, nor a leader from his thighs, until the things laid up for him come; and he shall be the expectation of the nations, binding his foal to the vine and the foal of his ass to the tendril of the vine. He shall wash his robe in wine and his garment in the blood of the grape. His eyes are bright with wine, and his teeth white as milk.’
