Καὶ ὁ Τρύφων· Ἀποδείκνυε· καὶ γάρ, ὡς ὁρᾷς, ἣ τε ἡμέρα προκόπτει, καὶ ἡμεῖς πρὸς τὰς οὕτως ἐπικινδύνους ἀποκρίσεις οὐκ ἐσμὲν ἕτοιμοι, ἐπειδὴ οὐδενὸς οὐδέποτε ταῦτα ἐρευνῶντος ἢ ζητοῦντος ἢ ἀποδεικνύντος ἀκηκόαμεν. Καὶ σοῦ λέγοντος οὐκ ἠνειχόμεθα, εἰ μὴ πάντα ἐπὶ τὰς γραφὰς ἀνῆγες· ἐξ αὐτῶν γὰρ τὰς ἀποδείξεις ποιεῖσθαι σπουδάζεις, καὶ μηδένα ὑπὲρ τὸν ποιητὴν τῶν ὅλων εἶναι θεὸν ἀποφαίνῃ.

English · Claude translation

And Trypho said, “Prove it; for, as you see, the day is advancing, and we are not ready for such dangerous answers, since we have never heard anyone searching into or inquiring about or proving these things. Nor would we have borne with you speaking, if you did not refer everything to the Scriptures; for you are eager to make your proofs from them, and you declare that there is no God above the Maker of all things.”
