Τί οὖν; ἔφην. Ἑτέραν διαθήκην ἔσεσθαι ὁ θεὸς ὑπέσχετο, οὐχ ὡς ἐκείνη διετάγη, καὶ ἄνευ φόβου καὶ τρόμου καὶ ἀστραπῶν διαταγῆναι αὐτοῖς ἔφη, καὶ δεικνύουσαν τί μὲν ὡς αἰώνιον καὶ παντὶ γένει ἁρμόζον καὶ ἔνταλμα καὶ ἔργον ὁ θεὸς ἐπίσταται, τί δὲ πρὸς τὸ σκληροκάρδιον τοῦ λαοῦ ὑμῶν ἁρμοσάμενος, ὡς καὶ διὰ τῶν προφητῶν βοᾷ, ἐνετέταλτο.

English · Claude translation

“What then?” I said. “God promised that there would be another covenant, not as that one was laid down, and said that it would be laid down for them without fear and trembling and lightnings, and showing what God knows to be eternal and fitting for every race, both commandment and work, and what he had commanded accommodating himself to the hardness of heart of your people, as he also cries through the prophets.”
