Εὖ ἴσθι οὖν, ὦ Τρύφων, λέγων ἐπέφερον, ὅτι ἃ παραποιήσας ὁ λεγόμενος διάβολος ἐν τοῖς Ἕλλησι λεχθῆναι ἐποίησεν, ὡς καὶ διὰ τῶν ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ μάγων ἐνήργησε καὶ διὰ τῶν ἐπὶ Ἡλίᾳ ψευδοπροφητῶν, καὶ ταῦτα βεβαίαν μου τὴν ἐν ταῖς γραφαῖς γνῶσιν καὶ πίστιν κατέστησεν.

“Know well, then, Trypho,” I went on, “that the things which the so-called devil made to be said among the Greeks by counterfeiting, as he also worked through the magicians in Egypt and the false prophets in the time of Elijah, have made my knowledge of the Scriptures and my faith firm.
