Συγγράμματα δὲ αὐτῶν ἔτι καὶ νῦν διαμένει, καὶ ἔστιν ἐντυχόντα τούτοις πλεῖστον ὠφεληθῆναι καὶ περὶ ἀρχῶν καὶ περὶ τέλους καὶ ὧν χρὴ εἰδέναι τὸν φιλόσοφον, πιστεύσαντα ἐκείνοις. Οὐ γὰρ μετὰ ἀποδείξεως πεποίηνται τότε τοὺς λόγους, ἅτε ἀνωτέρω πάσης ἀποδείξεως ὄντες ἀξιόπιστοι μάρτυρες τῆς ἀληθείας· τὰ δὲ ἀποβάντα καὶ ἀποβαίνοντα ἐξαναγκάζει συντίθεσθαι τοῖς λελαλημένοις διʼ αὐτῶν.

English · Claude translation

“Their writings still remain even now, and whoever reads them, believing them, can gain very much both about first principles and about the end, and about the things a philosopher ought to know. For they did not then make their discourses with demonstration, since they were witnesses to the truth worthy of belief above all demonstration; but the things that have happened and are happening compel one to agree with what was spoken through them.
