Εἰσὶ δὲ οἱ λόγοι οὗτοι· Οὐαὶ τέκνα ἀποστάται, τάδε λέγει κύριος· Ἐποιήσατε βουλὴν οὐ διʼ ἐμοῦ καὶ συνθήκας οὐ διὰ τοῦ πνεύματός μου, προσθεῖναι ἁμαρτίας ἐφʼ ἁμαρτίαις· οἱ πορευόμενοι καταβῆναι εἰς Αἴγυπτον, ἐμὲ δὲ οὐκ ἠρώτησαν, τοῦ βοηθηθῆναι ὑπὸ Φαραὼ καὶ σκεπασθῆναι σκέπην Αἰγυπτίων. Ἔσται γὰρ ὑμῖν ἡ σκέπη Φαραὼ εἰς αἰσχύνην, καὶ τοῖς πεποιθόσιν ἐπʼ Αἰγυπτίους ὄνειδος, ὅτι εἰσὶν ἐν Τάνει ἀρχηγοὶ ἄγγελοι πονηροί. Μάτην κοπιάσουσι πρὸς λαόν, ὃς οὐκ ὠφελήσει αὐτοὺς εἰς βοήθειαν, ἀλλʼ εἰς αἰσχύνην καὶ ὄνειδος.

“These are the words: ‘Woe, rebellious children, thus says the Lord: You have taken counsel, but not through me, and made covenants, but not through my Spirit, to add sins to sins; who go down to Egypt, and have not asked me, to be helped by Pharaoh and sheltered in the shelter of the Egyptians. For the shelter of Pharaoh shall be to you a shame, and to those who trust in the Egyptians a reproach; for there are in Tanis princes, evil angels. In vain shall they labor for a people who will not profit them for help, but for shame and reproach.’
