Ῥάβδους βαλὼν Ἰακὼβ εἰς τὰς ληνοὺς τῶν ὑδάτων ἐγκισσῆσαι τὰ πρόβατα τοῦ μητραδέλφου, ἵνα τὰ γεννώμενα ἐξ αὐτῶν κτήσηται, ἐπέτυχεν· ἐν ῥάβδῳ αὐτοῦ διεληλυθέναι τὸν ποταμὸν ὁ αὐτὸς Ἰακὼβ καυχᾶται. Κλίμακα ἔφη ἑωρᾶσθαι αὐτῷ, καὶ τὸν θεὸν ἐπʼ αὐτῆς ἐστηρίχθαι ἡ γραφὴ δεδήλωκε· καὶ ὅτι οὐχ ὁ πατὴρ ἦν, ἀπὸ τῶν γραφῶν ἀπεδείξαμεν. Καὶ ἐπὶ λίθου καταχέας ἔλαιον ἐν τῷ αὐτῷ τόπῳ Ἰακὼβ στήλην τῷ ὀφθέντι αὐτῷ θεῷ ἀληλιφέναι ὑπʼ αὐτοῦ τοῦ ὀφθέντος αὐτῷ θεοῦ μαρτυρεῖται.

English · Claude translation

“Jacob, by putting rods into the watering troughs, succeeded in making the sheep of his mother's brother conceive, so that he might gain their offspring. With his rod the same Jacob boasts that he crossed the river. He said a ladder was seen by him, and the Scripture has shown that God stood firmly on it; and we have proved from the Scriptures that it was not the Father. And Jacob, pouring oil on a stone in the same place, is testified by the very God who appeared to him to have anointed a pillar to the God who appeared to him.
