Καὶ ἡμᾶς οὖν, ἔφη, προβίβασον ἐκ τῶν γραφῶν, ἵνα σοι πεισθῶμεν καὶ ἡμεῖς. Παθεῖν μὲν γὰρ καὶ ὡς πρόβατον ἀχθήσεσθαι οἴδαμεν· εἰ δὲ καὶ σταυρωθῆναι καὶ οὕτως αἰσχρῶς καὶ ἀτίμως ἀποθανεῖν διὰ τοῦ κεκατηραμένου ἐν τῷ νόμῳ θανάτου, ἀπόδειξον ἡμῖν· ἡμεῖς γὰρ οὐδʼ εἰς ἔννοιαν τούτου ἐλθεῖν δυνάμεθα.

English · Claude translation

“Lead us on, then, from the Scriptures,” he said, “so that we too may be persuaded by you. For we know that he was to suffer and be led as a sheep; but prove to us that he was also to be crucified and die so shamefully and dishonorably by the death cursed in the law; for we cannot even conceive of this.”
