To Autolycus 3.12

Moreover, concerning righteousness, of which the law spoke, the teaching of the prophets and of the Gospels is found to agree with it, because all the Spirit-bearers spoke by the one Spirit of God. Isaiah said this: “Put away the wickedness from your souls; learn to do good; seek justice; rescue the wronged; defend the orphan and vindicate the widow.” And again the same prophet: “Loose every bond of injustice,” he says, “untie the knots of violent contracts, set the broken free, and tear up every unjust bond. Break your bread for the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; if you see someone naked, clothe him, and do not disregard your own kin. Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will spring up quickly, and your righteousness will go before you.” Likewise Jeremiah: “Stand by the roads,” he says, “and look, and ask which is the good way of the Lord our God, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. Judge with righteous judgment, for in these things is the will of the Lord your God.” So too Hosea says: “Keep justice and draw near to the Lord your God, who made firm the heaven and created the earth.” And another, Joel, spoke in agreement with them: “Gather the people, sanctify the assembly, bring in the elders, gather the infants at the breast; let the bridegroom come out of his chamber and the bride out of her bridal room. And pray earnestly to the Lord your God, that he may have mercy on you, and he will blot out your sins.” Likewise another, Zechariah: “Thus says the Lord Almighty: Judge with true judgment, and show mercy and compassion each to his neighbor; do not oppress the widow and the orphan and the sojourner; and let none of you bear a grudge in your hearts against his brother, says the Lord Almighty.”
