Οὔτε ἔσται ποτὲ ἄλλος θεός, ὦ Τρύφων, οὔτε ἦν ἀπʼ αἰῶνος, ἐγὼ οὕτως πρὸς αὐτόν, πλὴν τοῦ πονήσαντος καὶ διατάξαντος τόδε τὸ πᾶν. Οὐδὲ ἄλλον μὲν ἡμῶν, ἄλλον δὲ ὑμῶν ἡγούμεθα θεόν, ἀλλʼ αὐτὸν ἐκεῖνον τὸν ἐξαγαγόντα τοὺς πατέρας ὑμῶν ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου ἐν χειρὶ κραταιᾷ καὶ βραχίονι ὑψηλῷ· οὐδʼ εἰς ἄλλον τινὰ ἠλπίκαμεν, οὐ γὰρ ἔστιν, ἀλλʼ εἰς τοῦτον εἰς ὃν καὶ ὑμεῖς, τὸν θεὸν τοῦ Ἀβραὰμ καὶ Ἰσαὰκ καὶ Ἰακώβ. Ἠλπίκαμεν δὲ οὐ διὰ Μωσέως οὐδὲ διὰ τοῦ νόμου· ἦ γὰρ ἂν τὸ αὐτὸ ὑμῖν ἐποιοῦμεν.

“There will never be another God, Trypho, nor has there been from eternity,” I said to him, “except the one who made and ordered this universe. Nor do we think that our God is one and yours another, but that he is the very one who brought your fathers out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm; nor have we hoped in any other (for there is none), but in the same one in whom you too hope, the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob. But we have not hoped through Moses or through the law; for then we would be doing the same as you.
