Ἔσθʼ ὅτε γὰρ τὸ ἅγιον πνεῦμα καὶ ἐναργῶς πράττεσθαί τι, ὃ τύπος τοῦ μέλλοντος γίνεσθαι ἦν, ἐποίει, ἔσθʼ ὅτε δὲ καὶ λόγους ἐφθέγξατο περὶ τῶν ἀποβαίνειν μελλόντων, φθεγγόμενον αὐτοὺς ὡς τότε γινομένων ἢ καὶ γεγενημένων· ἣν τέχνην ἐὰν μὴ εἰδῶσιν οἱ ἐντυγχάνοντες, οὐδὲ παρακολουθῆσαι τοῖς τῶν προφητῶν λόγοις, ὡς δεῖ, δυνήσονται. Παραδείγματος δὲ χάριν λόγους τινὰς προφητικοὺς εἴποιμʼ ἄν, ὅπως παρακολουθήσητε τῷ λεγομένῳ.

English · Claude translation

“For sometimes the Holy Spirit caused something to be done openly which was a type of what was to happen, and sometimes it uttered words about what was to come to pass, speaking them as though they were then happening or had happened; and unless those who read know this art, they will not be able to follow the words of the prophets as they should. And for the sake of example I will cite some prophetic words, so that you may follow what I say.
