Καὶ πάλιν ἐν ἑτέροις λόγοις ἔφη· Δίδωμι ὑμῖν ἐξουσίαν καταπατεῖν ἐπάνω ὄφεων καὶ σκορπίων καὶ σκολοπενδρῶν καὶ ἐπάνω πάσης δυνάμεως τοῦ ἐχθροῦ. Καὶ νῦν ἡμεῖς, οἱ πιστεύοντες ἐπὶ τὸν σταυρωθέντα ἐπὶ Ποντίου Πιλάτου Ἰησοῦν κύριον ἡμῶν, τὰ δαιμόνια πάντα καὶ πνεύματα πονηρὰ ἐξορκίζοντες ὑποτασσόμενα ἡμῖν ἔχομεν. Εἰ γὰρ διὰ τῶν προφητῶν παρακεκαλυμμένως κεκήρυκτο παθητὸς γενησόμενος ὁ Χριστὸς καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα πάντων κυριεύσων, ἀλλʼ οὖν γε ὑπʼ οὐδενὸς νοεῖσθαι ἐδύνατο, μέχρις αὐτὸς ἔπεισε τοὺς ἀποστόλους ἐν ταῖς γραφαῖς ταῦτα κεκηρύχθαι διαρρήδην.

“And again in other words he said: ‘I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and centipedes, and over all the power of the enemy.’ And now we who believe in our Lord Jesus, who was crucified under Pontius Pilate, exorcise all demons and evil spirits and have them subject to us. For if Christ was proclaimed in a veiled way through the prophets as one who would suffer and afterward rule over all, still he could be understood by no one until he himself persuaded the apostles that these things had been expressly proclaimed in the Scriptures.
